Monthly Character Traits

February 29, 2008

Building Good Citizens for Texas targets a different character trait each month by utilizing a monthly list of positive character traits called for by House Bill 946, passed by the 77th Texas Legislature, 2001, and signed into law by Governor Rick Perry .

Programs offered under Texas Education Code §29.906 must meet the following criteria:

1) stress positive character traits as outlined in the bill;

2) use integrated teaching strategies; and

3) be age appropriate.

Building Good Citizens for Texas ensures that the lessons plans on the character traits are reinforced throughout the month, and through the day, by incorporating these character traits within the existing classroom lesson plans. These plans are tailored to meet the needs of different age groups. By reinforcing and repeating the benefits of these traits in each class all month long, students internalize the positive messages more readily and see value in continuing to represent these values.
